Further information about the contributions to the KlimaPODIUM
Why is everyone talking about the climate crisis, digitalisation and a green future – but hardly anyone is talking about the cobalt in smartphones that comes from mines in the Congo? Why are walls being built instead of taking responsibility?
This play gives a voice to the Earth – and to the people whose lives have been exploited for centuries for the wealth of others. It is about colonial wounds, global power, but also about resistance, knowledge and dignity.
Karlsruhe needs to save money, but at the same time wants to invest in climate-friendly future projects such as the expansion of renewable energies. Through cooperation with the citizen energy cooperative BEnKA, solar panels are being installed on municipal roofs, benefiting both the members of the cooperative and citizens. This enables the city to move closer to its climate goals without placing a heavy burden on its own resources. BEnKA reports on both the concept and the challenges that need to be overcome.
What exactly is inside the mobile phones we use every day? Together, we want to take a look behind the screen and examine various materials and production steps. We will get out our screwdrivers, take things apart, pry them open and create new works of art from electronic waste. Feel free to bring along any small appliances or cables you no longer use that you would like to use for this (not mandatory).
KIT: Acting reflectively and sustainably
Development cooperation at Engineers Without Borders Karlsruhe
KIT: ‘Deep Sustainability: What needs to change to become truly sustainable?’
KIT: Watts next? – The game about the energy transition
In this board game, you take responsibility for the energy transition. The aim is to secure the energy supply, combine technologies cleverly and manage resources and money wisely – before climate change becomes irreversible. Are you in? Then play with us at the climate podium at DAS FEST.
KIT: ReFrame: Digital circular reuse of waste wood
Presentation of the KIT pavilion and research on circular materials in combination with computer-aided design and digital manufacturing.
The future calls for new approaches – let's activate our desire to find solutions and become self-effective in shaping desirable living environments in Karlsruhe!
We will discuss the impact that a Karlsruhe Fair Constitution could have on developing a future world city. This refers to a city constitution that activates the talents of its citizens and creates the framework for active democracy and fair change.
Together, we want to test our knowledge of climate protection and sustainable future prospects in an entertaining way. Whether you are already an expert or just curious, everyone is welcome! Let's learn, discuss and have fun together.
The content focuses on the confident handling of data, how to access open data in Karlsruhe, why this is good for the city and its citizens, and, of course, the positive impact it can have on the environment.
As a sustainable economic system, the Economy for the Common Good offers an alternative with concrete and proven tools. In this impulse, you will learn about some successful practical examples and we will discuss how we can implement the theoretical triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.
The energetic quiz for anyone who wants to learn more about batteries!
In five five-minute segments, the Karlsruhe Energy and Climate Protection Agency (KEK) demonstrates how diverse and practical its work is: from inspiring renovation stories to the Energy Café to individual consultations – in the neighbourhood, at the advice centre or at home in your living room. KEK brings climate protection directly to the people. It is understandable, independent and free of charge.
A documentary about the environmentally friendly concert tour of Manu Delago, his band and crew. Under the motto ‘From the Alps to the North Sea’, they travelled by bicycle from Innsbruck to Amsterdam and played 17 concerts along the way to contribute to climate protection.
What you can expect at the Climate Academy 2025:
Karlsruhe Energy and Climate Protection Agency (KEK)
The KEK is committed to promoting the expansion of renewable energies and climate protection in Karlsruhe and has a new highlight for you on site: the renovation mobile from Zukunft Altbau. This offers comprehensive, independent and easy-to-understand advice and information on all aspects of energy-efficient building renovation.
Wandelwirken e.V. is involved in activities and artistic projects that promote change for sustainable urban development and connects research with practitioners and citizens.
SIMAMA® – STEH AUF e.V. is an active migrant self-organisation. Through their commitment, they highlight the valuable contributions made by people from the Global South and migrants in Germany and promote their equal participation in all areas of society.
The Office for Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety of the City of Karlsruhe will present the city's heat action plan and climate adaptation strategy at the FEST. They will also present the city map for hot days, the climate campaign and, most likely, the heavy rain risk management plan (with references to brand new hazard maps).
BürgerEnergieKarlsruhe (BEnKA) is a citizen energy cooperative that provides information on green energy sources and photovoltaics, as well as on the topic of citizen energy in Karlsruhe.
OK Lab
OK Lab Karlsruhe is committed to digital transparency and open administrative data. Under the motto ‘Free knowledge with digital tools for everyone!’, the team networks with the city and its citizens, advises and develops projects related to open knowledge. A central concern: promoting the Karlsruhe transparency portal and actively helping to shape it. At DAS FEST, they will show what can be done with data, present previous projects and bring interactive ‘hands-on data’ with them.
NEW IN 2025: Batterie Zurück
As a new partner, Batterie Zurück provides information on the proper disposal of used batteries and rechargeable batteries and raises awareness of environmental issues in this context. Batteries and rechargeable batteries have become an integral part of our everyday lives! But where do you put them when they are empty or broken? To the collection point in the shop or the recycling centre, of course! Find out why this is so important and what our mission ‘There is a way back!’ is all about at the Batterie-Zurück stand. And because protecting the environment can also be fun, there are entertaining games and lots of information on the topic of battery recycling. Battery basketball and fishing games test your skills while teaching you how easy it is to become a recycling hero and what batteries have to do with conserving resource.
NEW IN 2025: Karlsruhe Climate Alliance
The Karlsruhe Climate Alliance is an association of 94 associations, organisations and initiatives committed to climate protection and climate justice. The Climate Academy includes the Protestant Church, GloW, Health for Future, Climate Action, Grandmas for Future and Vegans for Future.

Sustainability - always a topic at DAS FEST
For many years now, DAS FEST Karlsruhe has attached great importance to a holistic sustainability concept which, in addition to waste avoidance and the use of regional suppliers and partners, also focuses on raising awareness among visitors. The call to travel to the FEST in the most climate-friendly way possible has also proved its worth: The popular BGV bicycle car parks around the FEST site will once again be available to visitors to DAS FEST in 2024. And the FEST tickets for the main stage will also be valid as KVV tickets for travelling to and from the festival in 2024.
