The Hamburg rapper defies categorization. Disarstar isn’t interested in cars and drugs, but in Karl Marx and critiques of capitalism. His story isn’t that of the typical underdog, but of a son from a middle-class family who can’t find his way and spirals downward. Precarious situations, moving out early, concerns about his school career, violence, and addiction issues pave the way for the musician, who pulled himself together, became a father at 30, and started training as a carpenter alongside his rap career. Following the success of releases like “Rolex für alle” (2022) or “Overdose” (2024), sold-out tours, and festival headlining shows, Disarstar released his eighth album, “Hamburger Aufstand,” in 2025, which recalls the attempt by Ernst Thälmann’s KPD to stage a coup in 1923 during the Weimar Republic. With his uncompromising critique of injustices and social ills, the rapper puts his finger on the wounds of his city and his country. The beats are dark, yet still danceable. For Disarstar, rap is the connection between the streets and leftist theory. In German rap, Disarstar is thus a unique phenomenon, and when he takes the stage, he’ll set the place on fire.
