With beats that build bridges and a musical fireworks display of diversity, the festival’s Saturday evening comes to a harmonious close on the outdoor stage. With their explosive mix—which the band itself calls “Global Umpa”—Malaka Hostel effortlessly tear down the invisible wall between band and audience. Folkloric elements, whether from the Balkans or the Andes, find their place—carried by Malaka Hostel’s grooving beats, while the brass section, consisting of trumpets and harmonicas, bubbles over with energy. Last March, the Freiburg-based band released "Brucca Beat," their third studio album, which once again bridges the gap between people, languages, and musical worlds. Multilingual songwriting, elements from many cultures spanning the Caribbean, the Balkans, and the Orient, plus good old-fashioned songwriting and a rock-driven sound—these are the tools of these musical globalists.
