They’re funny, they’re feminist, they rap, dance, sing about topics that aren’t often sung about, and wear quirky outfits: The young pop trio from Chemnitz caused a nationwide sensation in 2020 with their debut album “Martini Sprite” and even caught the attention of the venerable arts sections. Sisters Lotta (drums) and Nina Kummer (vocals and guitar), along with multi-instrumentalist Johann Bonitz, describe their style as “Las Vegas Glamour” and add that it’s the genre for everyone who doesn’t like genres. Last year, the trio released their third album, “Ich träum doch nur von Liebe.” Within just a few minutes of a Blond concert, you realize: This is a goddamn mass. You’ve got the accompanying fan chants down after a round and a half—and you don’t stop singing them even after the concert is long over. You sigh along to sweet pop ballads while drifting off to distant realms, you stomp your feet to rousing anthems and let yourself be grounded. Blond songs are imbued with a fitting bitterness, yet they always have an embracing irony at the ready that sends you off in high spirits and confident of victory.
