In his current program, the Berlin-based singer-songwriter and cabaret artist does one thing above all else—escape. Sometimes he goes on a bike ride, sometimes to a monastery, sometimes to a communist summer camp—and sometimes just into the depths of his own thoughts. The result is songs full of lightness and wit, yet unafraid to confront his own inner abysses. Accompanied by piano, guitar, or Lennart Schilgen’s specialty—"a cappella, without singing"—a barrage of "absence notes" follows: little linguistic wonders, profoundly silly, yet supremely artful.
